Design a Day (15)
Another day, another new design. Day 15 of Design a Day continues.
For those who are just joining us for the first time, let me give a quick rundown of what Design a Day is. And, for those of you who've been here before, enjoy the pretty looking pictures of a cool design on what I like to call it Pop Color Wear. But to explain, Design a Day is about me growing as a creative, challenging myself to continually be producing, and making some cool art. I figured the best way to do that is to release one new graphic design almost every day to my store. Six days a week, something new. It's gonna be rough, but, it's gonna be fun. Hope you all enjoy the ride and find something you like along the way.
Are my designs cool? Are they complete crap?
Honestly I have no idea anymore, but, I'm still going to keep on creating them because that's the only way to evolve and get better. I've been toying with some variations lately, taking the designs I do and using them as building blocks to create larger mosaics.
For a second I was like, man, I'm cheating, using digital manipulation to create these. Then I realized, it's my art...start to finish I created this. I took the ingredients, I mixed them together, baked them at a certain temperature, with a specific result in mind. Why should I feel weird or guilty about adding a modern frosting to it all?
That and I know I can create these kind of patterns on a larger scale anyways.
I've done a couple on-canvas paintings (2'x2') so I know complexity isn't a problem for me. What I'm doing digitally is just a production thing.
I think that's a big thing about art that's so gray-zone nowadays. The age-old fight between traditionalist, modernists, and everyone in between. I mean, what is art? What is design? What do artists and creatives have to do to survive? Part of the fun of being an artist is taking all the tools available to us to make something that we have brewing in our head, no matter what they are. Computers, paints, pens, LED's, LCD's, who cares as long as it makes a point or looks cool?
Love me, hate me, whatever.
I'm just going to keep on my path doing my thing figuring out how to best get my point across. It sucks being so new, and knowing how far I have to go to begin to be able to properly express myself, but, I just have to be happy with where I am and keep on working my ass off to move forward.
Hope you enjoy this design, I sure do, especially on those totes, hehe.
